The musical duo “Tante Friedl” has set itself the task of transforming folk from various parts of the world into touching worlds of sound. The warm and moving voices of Magdalena and Dan, paired with accordion and banjo, allow you to disappear into deeply touching dream worlds. The German-American folk duo writes their own songs and also takes music and songs from other musicians and friends from different parts of the world - such as the Balkans, Eastern and Central Europe, Scandinavia, the Scottish islands and America into the program. An attractive mix that ranges from ballads, protest, murder and love songs to yodeling and scatting. The duo owes their name to their mothers' aunts, who both happen to be called Friedl. Two strong female figures whose playful, creative energy strongly influences the duo's music. With a lot of charm and bite, “Aunt Friedl” presents a distinctive mixture of folk music, punk, cabaret and New Orleans street music. The duo was selected for this purpose in 2023 as part of the Int. Freiburg Cultural Exchange awarded the “Freiburg Ladder”.
