Martin Baltscheit's piece “Just a Day” is about everything that makes life worth living and the question of how to deal with its transience. At the Koblenz Theater, Stephan Siegfried is staging a delightful, touching adaptation for the puppet theater, recommended for an audience aged eight and over.

As the wild boar and fox watch the mayfly hatch, they suspect that it would be smarter to get away quickly. But they don't... and when they meet the little fly, she is so adorable that they immediately befriend her and even fall a little in love with her. And now the big question is: Are they telling the newly hatched creature, which thinks it is a Mayfly, the truth - namely that it is a mayfly and its lifespan can be determined from its name? Wild boar and fox resort to a white lie. They tell the mayfly that the fox won't survive today, that's why they're so sad. The young, pretty fly is genuinely touched and doesn't hesitate for long:

Then the fox's entire life has to fit into this one day - a whole long life including great happiness! When she ultimately learns the truth that her own lifespan is so short and that her friends wanted to give her the best possible life, her disappointment at this lie gives way to great gratitude and she ends her one-day life fulfilled and happy.

The adventure of these three unlikely friends poses the big question of how to deal with impending death in a child-friendly way - and celebrates life in all its facets. A funny, touching and hopeful story about friendship and the courage to live every day as if it were the last.

Stephan Siegfried stages the production in the C11 venue, which conveys a sense of security due to its small size and therefore offers the optimal setting for a production like “Only a Day”. The stage and puppets are lovingly designed and built by Christof von Büren and are brought to life in a very sympathetic way by the ensemble puppeteers Hendrika de Kramer, Dietmar Bertram and Sophia Walther. You can expect 60 entertaining minutes of theater for young and old that will make you laugh, warm your heart and maybe even shed a tear or two.
