The old dragon Tyrion wants to prepare his young son Tabaluga for his destined task of protecting the world. But for this Tabaluga has to find the true fire, because only then can he put an end to the machinations of Arktos. Tabaluga has the support of a magician and the dragon now goes to find the fire.

Tabaluga faces many dangers, such as in the form of the spider woman Tarantula, and also learns about beautiful things. This is how Tabaluga learns that the world with all its good and bad is wonderful and worth saving. Arktos wants to prevent Tabaluga from living up to his destiny and creates a beautiful being out of pure ice, the girl Lilli. Lilli's only job is to distract Tabaluga from his quest for True Fire.
