aus der Sicht eines römisch-trierischen Patriziers

Trier, Tourist-Information Trier

An der Porta Nigra, 54290 Trier (Germany) - map
The Roman Empire – collapsed? Antiquity – long gone? Might be. But you still meet them in Trier: real Romans who got to know the city as Augusta Treverorum, who were there during Constantine's reign and the creation of his major imperial building projects such as the cathedral, basilica and imperial baths.

Some of them had connections to the imperial family, some worked as ordinary Roman citizens in the city of cities. And no one could describe the pride and splendor of the time better, celebrate it more enthusiastically and bring it back to life more authentically in the mind's eye than she. Follow our Roman city guides on their way through the city and learn not only a lot about Trier's Roman history, but also about what life is like as an ancient Roman in the city today. We can say in advance: it is not easy. After all, not only the empire and sesterces have perished, but also the good old traditions of wearing togas, being carried through the city in a sedan chair or throwing people to wild animals in the amphitheater...
